Meleng Tea Estate
Established in 1852 by John Edward Thor, it is said to be one of the oldest tea estates in Assam.
It has been operated by the current owner since 1969.
The tea plantation is surrounded by World Heritage sites and nature reserves where wild animals such as gibbons, leopards and elephants live.
There are 9,000 residents living on the premises, and 1,700 full-time staff members are involved in tea production.
They produce both orthodox and CTC teas, and export them not only within India but all over the world. This is a tea plantation that has consistently received high praise internationally.
Assam, synonymous with Indian tea
In 1823, an Englishman discovered tea plants growing in this area, marking the beginning of Assam's pioneering history. Today, it is the largest production area in India.
80% of production is CTC type, and the remaining 20% is leaf type by orthodox manufacturing method.
