This fine second flush tea comes from Dooars, a tea-producing region
nestled between Darjeeling and Assam. Most tea estates in the region
produce CTC teas well suited to tea with milk, while Putharjhora Tea
Estate uses orthodox methods and organic farming to produce fine quality
teas. Rich in golden tips, these leaves brew into a balanced cup with a mild
flavour and a sweet, roasted aroma reminiscent of honey and malt.

Putharjhora Tea Estate

This tea garden was founded in 1887. While most tea gardens in this region use the CTC method, this is the only tea garden that produces tea using the orthodox method, and organically (some estates, including this one, do not offer organic certification). While organic cultivation is relatively easy in high-altitude areas, the Dooars region, classified as low-grown at an elevation of 170-350m, has a hot and humid environment with many pests and diseases, making organic cultivation very difficult. Nevertheless, it continues to produce top-class quality tea, distinguishing itself in Dooars, where most teas are typically mid-grade or lower for the domestic Indian market.

It is a tea-producing plain that stretches across the eastern basin of the Brahmaputra River in Northeast India. It consists of 157 tea gardens and produces 150,000 tons of tea annually. Most of the production is CTC type tea, and tea gardens that produce loose-leaf tea are rare.
